We Remember Darby

Darby was adopted by Rick Tucker in March 2001 after his owner, Claire Dooley, died while walking him.  Darby was 10 years old at the time.  Though Darby suffered from various ailments, including Cushing's disease and various infections, Darby lived a good life for an additional 2 years.

When Rick adopted Darby, Darby had not used stairs for many years, since Claire lived in a single-level condo.  It was a learning experience for Darby to go up and down stairs, since Rick lives in a three-story townhouse.

My favorite photo of Darby is of him and me in my Volvo C70 convertible.  I'm in the driver's seat and Darby is in the back, hanging over the edge of the car with his tongue hanging out.  Darby enjoyed driving around town and in the country.  Darby was with me on a drive to Chrysalis Vineyards in the horse country of Virginia... and from the back seat enjoyed the hour-plus ride with the top down immensely.
